Weekly Roundup: 3/26 | Edible Silicon Valley

As we revel in spring, and while the rest of the country shovels snow, it is a good time to be grateful for all we have here in Norcal. And it just happens that this is the time of year for Passover and Easter. Not only are these meaningful ?feasting? holidays, they do signal a transition from winter to spring cooking. And just in time, if you ask us. This week?s roundup has a little extra focus on the spring delights you can find during our holiday celebrations.

Seasonal Recipes:

It?s a bit shameful, but no food we know of says ?Easter? quite like marshmallow ?Peeps?. Yes they are sugary, yes they are hyper-artificial pastel, and they are certainly not organic (or local), but we still love them. But now, we can make our own. Don?t you feel better? We do. The Los Angeles Times has a very entertaining article and recipe here.

While this may only help so much for your Seder, this collection of 25 great Matzoh recipes at Buzzfeed is worth a look at any time of year. Caramel-Matzoh Crunch? Yes, please. Full collection here.

And with Easter and spring coming, we start thinking about cooking lamb. And so does Saveur. They offer up a huge collection of 50 lamb recipes (and lovely photos) from all over the world. All recipes here.

Wine, Spirits and Beer:

While we like to drink more in Silicon Valley than haul ourselves up to the city, a few of our local SV distillers are featured in a collection of SF cocktails using local spirits. We gotta share the love when we can. Slideshow here.

Again, we have to stray outside the boundaries of the Valley just a bit, but the Mercury News did a full feature on the wineries of the Livermore Valley. There is more going on out there than you might think, and some seriously old vines?we feel a ?renaissance? coming. Full series here.

Health and Nutrition:

Sandwiches are one of our favorite foods, but they don?t usually scream ?healthy?. But the New York Times has a great article showing how you can make tasty and healthy ?sammies? using fresh ingredients. Tasty recipe too. Full story here.

What?s Hot:

We think this slideshow from The Daily Meal, ?15 Ingredients We?ve Been Waiting to Cook All Winter? neatly sums up our feelings about the season. Bring ?em on! Full slideshow here.
